Great news! On June 26, 2014 at the 2014 American Institute of Architects National Convention in Chicago Illinois, a Hip Hop Inspired Architecture exhibit will be on display and its being designed by yours truly! After years and years of research, presentations and lectures at various universities and multiple publications, I am now going to show my aspirations on a grand scale. The 2014 AIA Convention in Chicago may very well attract over 15,000 attendees, including architectural professionals, practitioners, educators, students and allied professionals from around the nation. Please help me make this exhibit possible by clicking on the donate button below. I will be grateful for any amount and will display your name or company name as a sponsor.
This opportunity was made possible by NOMA, The National Organization of Minority Architects and I have a host of NOMA members helping me make this exhibit a reality. I will be sure to share their names and contact info during the exhibit! They are really pushin gme along. My ultimate goal in this exhibit is to show how this new architectural approach could be the vessel which allows the small population of African American architects, who comprise 3% of all licensed architects in America, to transcend the limitations that typically encumber us from becoming "starchitects". Those limitations include making the research and practice of the profession relevant to individuals in underrepresented communities, improving the enrollment and retention of underrepresented communities in architectural schools across the nation, and last but certainly not least in the string of limitations for minority architects, providing a cultural means from which an architectural style or approach can be derived.
After the AIA Convention, it is my plan to make this a traveling exhibit, as I am scheduling tours and associated lectures at various universities. I am happy to announce that the first stop will be The University of Detroit's School of Architecture, located in Detroit, Michigan on September 26, 2014 as a part of the Detroit Design Festival followed by the NOMA'S 42nd Annual International Conference and Exposition in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The exhibit will include my research along with the works of various architectural professionals, students and renown hip hop artist from around the nation.
If you are registered for the AIA Convention, please join me on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers.
